Davao Light welcomes and releases the remaining batch of pawikan hatchlings in the Cleanergy Park

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. welcomed 129 baby Hawksbill Turltes from the last batch of Pawikan nest last April 30, 2017 in the Cleanergy Park at Sitio Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, Davao City.

These pawikan hatchlings came from the fourth nest found last February 24, 2017. To date, a total of 627 hatchlings from the four nests discovered in the Cleanergy Park were released in the first quarter of 2017.

Considered as critically endangered species, these pawikans gained support of the many who came to give cheers and wishes as our little shelled friends eagerly walked their way to start their lives in the wild.

Present to witness the event were the Davao Light employees led by Rodger S. Velasco, EVP and COO together with Olie B. Dagala, one of the Directors of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA); Fr. Mike Pineda, Principal of the Ateneo High School and its faculty; and some members from the Junior Chamber International -Central Davao.

Davao Light and the Aboitiz Foundation will continue in our efforts to protect the pawikans and in educating the community to help preserve the environment for the future generations to enjoy.” said, Velasco.

Davao Light is expecting more mother pawikans to come to the Cleanergy Park and lay their next generation babies.

 

Cleanergy Park is a project of Davao Light and Power Co., an Aboitiz Power subsidiary, in partnership with and Aboitiz Foundation. It is a biodiversity park that is aimed to preserve the pawikan nesting grounds, be a home of many thriving bird species and maintain help ecological balance for other sea and land creatures.
