Cheer up our public school classrooms! Davao Light repaints and repairs in Brigada Eskwela 2017

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. joins the week-long nationwide Brigada Eskwela activity last May 20, 2017 at A. Bonifacio Elementary School in Talomo, Davao City and New Visayas Elementary School in Panabo City. Out of the total of 460 volunteers from Davao and Panabo groups, 275 were Davao Light employees who took their part in repainting the classrooms for the said schools in preparation for the coming academic year.

Bringing with them their painting tools, the employees, faculty, parents and students offered their time and efforts to show the spirit of volunteerism and service. Motivated by the strong support of the company's corporate social responsibility efforts, the employees' very own cooperative, INCOME Davao, has also assisted in the donation of paint and repair materials for the classrooms.

Our participation to the Brigada Eskwela is actually a group wide Aboitiz-initiated activity where all Aboitiz Group of companies nationwide simultaneously work to prepare our respective beneficiary schools. It is always our pleasure to take part in preparing the schools for our City's or even the country's future leaders so that they will be comfortable learning their way to success. The next generation is the hope of a brighter future for our nation.” said Engr. Rodger Velasco, EVP and COO of Davao Light during his speech.

The employees all gathered and lined up under the summer heat to repaint the armchairs, tables and bookshelves. Some employees even brought with them their own children: "Gipa-join nako ang akong anak [I let my son join] so that he will also experience Brigada Eskwela." said Streetlight Department Supervisor Severino Ando, elaborating that it's a good experience to his kids to give something back to our school and community.

"In behalf of the teaching force, parents and pupils of A. Bonifacio Elementary School, I would like to express our warmest gratitude for all the favors extended to us especially in the conduct of this Brigada Eskwela. This will enhance our school learning facilities which will positively cater to the children's needs. It brings an impact in relation to the teaching-learning environment and it really meant a lot to us." said the School Head, Ronald Mangmang.

A forum on energy conservation and other services provided by Davao Light was also conducted later that day to educate the teachers, parents and students.
