AboitizPower Distribution Utilities convene for the 1st Lineman’s Rodeo

Linemen from the AboitizPower Distribution Utilities (AP DU) convened to take part in the first Lineman’s Rodeo last July 14 at the Technical Training Grounds in Midland Village Maa, Davao City.

A total of 35 linemen participated in the event. They came from the seven business units of the AP DU namely Davao Light and Power Co. Inc., Visayan Electric Co. (VECO), Cotabato Light and Power Co., Subic Enerzone, Balamban Enerzone, Mactan Enerzone and Lima Enerzone.

The participants from each DU were grouped together with the representatives from other DUs. This is to foster camaraderie and to benchmark skills among linemen across the AP DU.

The Lineman’s Rodeo or Rodeolympics is also AP’s way of recognizing the contribution of its linemen in its business.

EVP and COO of the AP Distribution Group, Jaime Jose Aboitiz, led the event together with the heads from each distribution utility namely Rodger Velasco of Davao Light, Anton Mari Perdices of VECO, Jude Sanchez of Cotabato Light, and Jay Navarro and Ben Arkoncel of the Enerzones.

Executives and some employees from the AP and the participating DUs also came to show their support in the event.

The event showcased the skills of the AP DU linemen through a relay involving the operation and replacement of powerline accessories, grounding, fuse replacement, to installation of house-meter. A race leg on Hurtsman Rescue was also included. The skills display was capped by a quizbowl that exhibits the competitors' knowledge of his day-to-day task.

The overall champion of the Rodeolympics was the group composed of Fernando Genotivo and Jeovanni Tuquib of Davao Light, Roderick Quinones, Alcher Tagsip and Marlon Otero of VECO, Adellene Merciadez of Cotabato Light and Donald Guibao of the Enerzone.

They brought home with them not only the prizes they got but also the bragging rights of being part of the winning team of the 1st AP DU Rodeolympics.

Ultimately, through the Rodeolympics, the AP DU hopes to encourage its linemen to apply the standard work procedures at all times and to equip themselves with the necessary skills and tools in their line of work.

The AP DU will continue to advance business and communities by distributing electricity that is safe and reliable at a reasonable cost.

The Distribution Group of the AboitizPower has been distributing electric service to its customers across the Philippines for more than 70 years. Together with the Aboitiz Group, it will continue to further drive change for a better world.
