Another batch of pawikan hatchlings released in the Cleanergy Park

Just three weeks after the release of the new set of pawikan hatchling, another batch of baby pawikans was set out to the sea at the Cleanergy Park in Sitio Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya Davao City last November 10, 2017.

A total of 70 baby pawikans were released, giving a total number of 1,023 hatchlings released for the year. These baby sea turtles came from the 7th nest discovered last September 14, 2017 at the Cleanergy Park.

Present during the release were the Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. employees led by Community Relations Manager Fermin Edillon together with the visitors from the Aboitiz Equity Ventures and the community.

Moreover, on the same day, the Davao Light found and validated another pawikan nest. This is the 11th nest found in the park for the year, making 2017 as the year with the highest number of discovered pawikan nests.

Releasing these pawikan hatchlings is always an exciting moment. The kids really enjoy seeing the baby turtles as they start a new journey into the sea. It is also a great time for every visitor to learn about the value of wildlife conservation.” said Edillon.

More pawikan nests are expected to be discovered in the Cleanergy Park in the coming weeks.

Cleanergy Park is a project of Davao Light and Power Co., an AboitizPower subsidiary, in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation. It is a biodiversity park that is aimed to help preserve the pawikan nesting grounds, be a home of many thriving bird species and help maintain ecological balance for other sea and land creatures.
