Davao Light gives computers to 2 public secondary schools PDF Print E-mail

The information technology skills of students at Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School in Matina, Davao City, and of Wangan High School in the city's Calinan District, get a major boost with the signing of two Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) documents between Davao Light & Power Co. and the two schools administrations. The MOA spells out the mechanics in the donation of computer equipment. The two MOAs were signed last Friday, August 29, at the Administration Office of the Aboitiz-owned electric utility in Davao.

Signing the MOA for the company was Manuel M. Orig, Exec. Vice President, and Mrs. Segundina C. Ramos, high school principal, in the case of recipient Daniel Aguinaldo High, and EVP Orig and Ms. Ma. Luisa Telebangco for Wangan High School.  The occasion was witnessed by the two schools' Information Communication Technology (ICT) coordinators. Under the agreement Davao Light donates four (4) units computer complete with accessories and peripherals to each of the recipient schools. In addition the company also gives two (2) units Lexmark printers each. Aside from the usual peripherals Davao Light also provides an Encarta encyclopedia CD which the students can use for research purposes. The MOA signing is a requirement of the company prior to the turnover of the units. The new computers are to be installed in the school's computer laboratory. The Davao Light donation augments the present number of units used by the two public high schools in imparting information technology skills to the students. In choosing Daniel Aguinaldo and Wangan High Schools as beneficiaries, Davao Light considers the basic requirements set by the company and its social development arm, the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. Among these requirements are the school's performance in the high school national achievement test (NAT), availability of computer laboratory with temperature that can be regulated and with security issues addressed. Also, the beneficiary schools have regular teacher handling the IT skills training for the students. Davao Light eyes more secondary schools for computer donations in the future.
