Close to 80 children at the SOS Village in Bajada, Davao City were recipients of gift package from Davao Light & Power Co. The distribution was done last December 15 in time for the orphanage house's launching of its “Light-a-Tree” fund raising project.
The gift packs which consist of personal hygiene items, school supplies and toys were acquired from the Samaritan Purse USA through the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., the social development arm of all companies under the Aboitiz Group. Aside from the gifts given by the electric utility, the company also sponsored the lighting of one tree inside the SOS Village compound. The switch-on was simultaneously done on all trees involved in the “Light-a-Tree” project. The lighting ceremony was graced by no less than Davao Archbishop Monsignor Fernando Capalla, SOS National Director Bienvenido L. Delgado, some members of the Davao SOS Board, sponsors' representatives and some guests, among them Mrs. Patricia Montemayor, Mrs. Pacita Dizon, City Social Welfare Development Officer Malou Bermudo, Holy Corss President Ma. Irish Melliza, and visitors from neighboring communities. The gifts distribution was done by Davao Light Community Relations Manager Vic N. Sumalinog and Comrel Supervisor Fermin Edillon. They were assisted by SOS national director Delgado and SOS-Davao executive Luis L. Serras. In giving the gifts Davao Light management hopes that they have made a few children feel the happiness brought about by the Christmas season, the celebration of the birth of the Lord savior Jesus.
