Modern Bayanihan: Davao Light employees cover books and install safety and enercon signage for Brigada Eskwela 2019

Employees of Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. covered books and installed safety and energy conservation signage during the closing of the Brigada Eskwela last May 25, 2019 in Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) in Matina, Davao City and Dujali Central Elementary School (DCES) in Dujali, Davao del Norte.

This activity is Davao Light's annual support to the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela anchored with this year's theme“Matatag na Bayan Para sa Maunlad na Paaralan”. However, this year was a lot different from the past brigada eskwela activities, which include repairing and repainting works.

Covering books and having safety and energy conservation signage inside the classrooms would give students the responsibility to take care of their books and be mindful of the electrical safety and energy usage inside the classroom.” said Davao Light President and COO Rodger S. Velasco.

Approximately 6,000 books were covered and 123 classrooms were installed with electrical safety and power conservation signage.

Aside from this, a Power 101 dubbed as Kuryentalks, was given to the parents, teachers and students. Kuryentalks is a word-play for kuryente or electricity and talk that aims to educate customers about the services of the company and how to become wiser and safer electricity users.

Davao Light will keep on providing support to Brigada Eskwela as our commitment to the community because we always believe that many is accomplished if we continue to work together. And this way, we advance business and communities., added Velasco.

Moreover, Davao Light has also turned over some equipment to add in the Disaster Risk Reduction Program of the schools in preparation for any possible eventualities. Sets of cleaning materials were also turned over to help maintain the cleanliness of the classrooms.

We, in DepEd, appreciate the help of all stakeholders in the community in making sure that all school facilities are prepared before the start of classes. We are always grateful to the participation of Davao Light to our annual Brigada Eskwela activity and for being our long-time partner in helping us give a better education to the future generation.”, said Davao City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ma. Ines C. Asuncion.

Around 800 participants composed of Davao Light employees, AboitizPower business units, students, parents and teachers gathered to lend a hand in the annual activity for both Davao City and Davao del Norte areas.
