Davao Light extends relief assistance to Davao City flood victims

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. together with the Aboitiz Foundation Inc. has extended relief assistance to the flood victims of the recent flash flood that hit various parts of Davao City last August 29, 2019.

Around 5,000 families in Tugbok, Talomo, Bangkal and Matina areas were affected by the flood brought about by the heavy downpour that Wednesday evening.

Immediately after the day of the incident, Davao Light in coordination with the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) distributed ready-to-eat food good for 400 people at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish covered court in Central Park Subdivision Bangkal, Davao City, one of the relief distribution sites.

Moreover, 200 hygiene kits were delivered last August 31 to the office of the CSSDO as additional assistance for the basic sanitation needs of the affected families. A single hygiene kit contained essentials like bath and laundry soap, shampoo, toothbrush, and toothpaste.

Aside from these relief efforts, Davao Light has also partnered with accredited independent electricians' associations to deploy electricians to the hardest-hit areas to check on their electrical connections before power is restored. This will help hasten the restoration of power and ensure safety of the homes when these are energized.

Meanwhile, this relief operation was a collaborative effort of the Aboitiz Group as other Aboitiz Business Units (BU) namely the Therma South Inc., the Hedcor Inc. and the Apo Agua Infrastructura have also provided relief assistance to flood victims in other areas within Davao City.

Davao Light, a subsidiary of the AboitizPower, together with the Aboitiz Foundation and the other Aboitiz BUs will continue to extend help for the communities where it serves and provide support to its partner organizations, and the local government units during unfortunate events such as flooding.
