Supporting DOLE XI's Project AGAKKA for a child labor-free city

A lot of children are forced to work at a very young age in the Philippines. This has led the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to create and intensify campaigns and projects to support the government's drive in preventing and eliminating child labor in the country.

One of these campaigns is DOLE XI's Project Alalay para sa Ginikanan Alang sa Kalambuan sa Kabatan-onan (AGAKKA). This is part of the Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) of DOLE that aims to assist parents or guardians of child laborers become financially able and stable by providing them livelihood or emergency employment.

We organize the parents of the identified barangay and provide them with opportunities to improve their livelihood and we will continue monitoring them,” said DOLE Davao City Field Office Child Labor Program Focal Lariele P. Arce.

In carrying out this campaign, DOLE XI has also partnered with different barangays and private organizations.

Recently, Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. turned over 70 gift bags filled with hygiene kits and school supplies to the Barangay Council for Protection of Children of Barangay 23-C in Davao City. The Barangay had 70 children profiled as child laborers last 2019.

We are very grateful to DOLE and Davao Light for all the help that they have given. Whatever assistance you will give us in the future, we will readily partner with you,” said Brgy. 23-C Kagawad Nanding Pinto. In 2020, 249 slots of the Work for Davao Program were given by the local government to the identified parents of the Barangay to aid the community affected by COVID-19.

DOLE XI presented certificates of appreciation to Davao Light and Barangay 23-C for its support to Project AGAKKA during the turnover last March 12 held at their Davao City Field Office.

"This is a great opportunity for us to share a simple gift to help make these children beneficiaries happy. Davao Light will continue its partnership with DOLE and support its efforts against child labor," said Davao Light Reputation Enhancement Department Head Fermin Edillon.

Since 2015, Davao Light, through its corporate social responsibility program, has been committed in supporting DOLE XI's programs.
