The Municipality of Santo Tomas in Davao del Norte recently commended Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) for its proactive support of the Municipality’s implementation of the Anti-Spaghetti Wire Ordinance.

Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-006 also known as the Anti-Spaghetti Wire Ordinance is a local regulation of Santo Tomas addressing tangled and potentially hazardous overhead wires, commonly known as "spaghetti wires." The ordinance primarily aims to regulate pole usage and pole wire installation in the Municipality. It also seeks to enhance public safety and improve the overall visual appeal of the environment.

Given this, Davao Light through the Business Development Team of Pole2Pole or the Pole Attachments Business of AboitizPower Distribution Utilities spearheaded a Pilot Site Launching of the Ordinance in partnership with the Municipal Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santo Tomas. Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Engr. Enriczar Tia and Municipal Mayor Roland Dejesica headed the activity with key companies, utilities, and contracted service partners.

The project partners cleared inactive wires and cables, bundled and fixed active or low-lying ones, and removed redundant poles especially those obstructing the roads and sidewalks along Feeder Road 3 to Feeder Road 2, National Highway last December 2024. The activity showcased these organizations’ shared commitment and support to the Municipality and its constituents.

Recognizing Davao Light’s efforts in complying with the Ordinance, the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Santo Tomas expressed its appreciation to the utility during their January 15, 2025 Committee Meeting at the Municipal Session Hall. Honorable Eduardo Llorente, SB Member, presented Resolution No. 640 Series of 2024, acknowledging the power distribution utility’s action and immediate coordination with the LGU in complying with the Ordinance.

Hon. Llorente with other SB Members, presented the certificate of commendation, which Engr. Arnel Bersabe, the Senior Assistant Vice President for the Panabo Branch Office of Davao Light, gratefully received.

“The successful collaboration of Davao Light and the Municipality of Santo Tomas reaffirms our commitment to supporting the communities we serve through impactful initiatives,” said Tia. “With our shared advocacy on addressing vital needs and ensuring the safety of communities, we are one with the LGU in safeguarding the development and empowerment of their Municipality.”

Davao Light, an Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) subsidiary, aims to empower and add value to the communities it serves by providing tools, services, and keys to efficiency and well-being, which will bring about development in its franchise area, which covers the cities of Davao and Panabo, and the municipalities of Carmen, Dujali, and Santo Tomas.
