It is a great start of the year for Davao Light and Power Co., Inc.’s (Davao Light) customers as the overall residential electricity rate is down by P0.2164 per kilowatt hour (kWh) this January 2025. The reduction is attributed to a lower generation charge which pulled the overall rate down to P8.9894/kWh from P9.2058/kWh last December 2024. This rate applies from January 11 to February 10, 2025.
A typical household with a monthly average of 200 kWh consumption will experience a P43.28 decrease from their previous billing.
The decrease in the generation charge was driven by low market prices in the Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) in Mindanao from which Davao Light sources part of its power requirement. The generation charge is a pass-through charge that Davao Light collects and pays to power suppliers.
“We continue to encourage our customers to use electricity wisely and efficiently even with the lower rate to avoid high electricity bills caused by high energy consumption,” said Fermin Edillon, Davao Light Reputation Enhancement Department Head.
