Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. (Davao Light) urges customers to practice energy efficiency to manage power consumption and avoid high electricity bills, especially during the dry months.

This comes after the overall residential electricity rate increased by P0.1995 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in March, pulling the rate up to P8.6022/kWh from P8.4027/kWh last month. This results in a P39.90 bill increase for a typical household with a monthly average of 200 kWh consumption. The rate applies to bills received from March 12 to April 10, 2025.

The adjustment is due to (1) the increase in the transmission charge due to higher ancillary services from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and (2) a higher National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) Feed-In Tariff Allowance or FIT-All charge — an Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)-approved uniform charge of P0.1189/kWh to support the development of the country’s renewable energy sources. These pass-through charges are collected by Davao Light and remitted to the respective organizations.

“We encourage our customers to practice efficient use of electricity, especially during the next few months as we experience the warm and dry season,” said Fermin Edillon, Davao Light Marketing and Communications Department Head. “We anticipate high electricity demand as customers use more air-cooling appliances to compensate for the heat. Our historical data shows high power consumption during this time.”

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, announced the start of the warm and dry season.

“We focus on overcoming the heat and humidity while efficiently managing our power consumption. During the cooler hours of the day, we open windows, let air flow in, and circulate inside our homes. Otherwise, use electric fans that consume less power than air conditioning units. On the other hand, when we use ACs, cut back on the number of hours or days of usage,” shared Edillon.

Davao Light, an Aboitiz Power Corporation subsidiary, aims to provide its customers with a front-seat vantage point regarding its services, including the sourcing and pricing of its electricity. This is in line with the mission of the company to deliver, at the most reasonable cost, safe and reliable electric service to the people and businesses it serves.
