Davao Light’s pole relocation works support DPWH road widening project

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) implemented its massive roadwidening and expansion projects along major thoroughfares in Davao City and in other franchise areas of Davao Light and Power Company, Inc which this AboitizPower distribution utility company supports by implementing its pole relocation project.

Davao Light takes on its responsibility to the community by ensuring public safety especially for the motorists and commuters. More than 1,000 poles were relocated in 2019 and 151 out of the estimated 500 poles were already relocated in 2020.

The pole relocation project is expected to be completed by 2022 given favorable conditions and work continues even amid Covid -19 pandemic.

"Relocating electric poles is no easy feat as the challenge involves delays due to Road Right of Way Agreement and the many cables and wires from the different utility companies like telecommunication, cable and internet still attached to the poles," said Davao Light Assistant VicePresident for Engineering Operations, Engr. Orville Lazaro.

Currently, the areas that are being prioritized for the pole relocation are in the road construction works in Malagamot-Indangan Bridge and Matina Pangi Bridge 1 and 2, drainage constructions in Laverna to Diversion Road and Solima Street, andthe road widening project along Cabantian to Indangan Road, J.P. Laurel, Magtuod, Tigatto, Callawa, Mandug, Tibungco, Malagamot, Mudiang, Panungtungan, Langub, Catalunan Pequeno, Catalunan Grande, By-pass Road Ulas to Libby Road, and Bunawan. Also included are the Davao to Bukidnon Road, Paquibato, Fatima, and Malabog areas. Pole relocation works that go with road widening can affect traffic situations in the areas of construction thus, the need for assistance from the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) of Davao who readily provides their services.

Engr.Lazaro added that since pole relocation entails power outages associated with transferring of lines to the new poles installed, Davao Light releases power outage advisories days before the major line works are started.

Davao Light is in close coordination with the DPWH, CTTMO and other utility companies for the continuous relocation of the remaining electric posts affected by the road widening project.
