Davao Light President Jim Aboitiz leads the release of another batch of pawikan hatchlings in the Cleanergy Park

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. President Jaime Jose “Jim” Aboitiz witnessed the dash of 161 pawikan hatchlings during their release last October 20 at the shore of the Cleanergy Park in Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, Davao City.

Davao Light EVP and COO Rodger Velasco and some employees together with Matina Aplaya Barangay officials, and representatives from different organizations, who support Pawikan Conservation efforts were also present during the release of the hatchlings.

The following day, seven more hatchlings were released to the sea after they were dug out from the nest and were found trapped in the roots of nearby plants. Students from the Ateneo de Davao Law School were present during the release.

A total of 168 hatchlings were released from nest number 6, which was found last August 26, 2017.

We are very fortunate that this area in Punta Dumalag has been a nesting haven for Pawikans. Thus, the Aboitiz through Davao Light will continue on its efforts to conserve and protect the Cleanergy Park for the future generation. We are encouraging everyone especially in the nearby communities to help protect the Pawikans and its nesting area. We don't know how many more events like this we are going to witness,” said Aboitiz.

For the year, a total of 953 hatchlings were released from the 6 pawikan nests found in the Cleanergy Park. Four remaining nests are waiting to be hatched and the park is expected to have more nesting visits in the coming weeks.
